At least 109 employees at a Colorado ski resort tested positive for Covid-19

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced the outbreak at Winter Park Resort in January, but released the data in its weekly outbreak summary on Wednesday.

There are at least 109 employees with active infections, they said.

“It was determined that these cases were not traced until transmission through interaction with visitors, but through social gatherings outside the workplace and congregated housing,” Grand County, Colorado, officials said on Monday in a joint statement with Winter Park Recuir.

With the ski season in full swing in Colorado, other resorts have also reported cases of Covid-19. But the outbreak in Winter Park is currently the biggest, according to CDPHE data.

“We have been working closely with public health officials since the pandemic began,” said Jen Miller, communications manager for the ski resort. “We did extensive planning and had to obtain state approval for our operations before we could open on December 3.”

Most cases were traced back to social gatherings outside of work and to congregate homes, Miller said.

Precautions, according to Miller, include: reconfiguring elevator aisles and elevator loading procedures, extra staff, new signage reminding visitors about mask requirements, limitations on meals, a reservation system to manage visitation and the number of people at the resort, contactless accommodation and a state-approved test site for its 1,700 active employees.

But some visitors reported that the masks’ mandates were not being fulfilled.

When asked about these reports, Miller said: “We have done extensive work and continue to evolve our operations as needed. I cannot speak about an individual’s experience, but we appreciate feedback and will continue to make changes to health and well-being. of our employees, guests and community as our top priority. “

Conor Cahill, press secretary to Colorado Governor Jared Polis, said ski resorts across the state need to “better plan and manage peak weekends”.

Although vaccines continue to be implemented, many American officials risked Covid-19 by going to work.

In October, Amazon reported that nearly 20,000 employees were infected with the virus. And one study found that 20% of workers at a grocery store in Boston had the virus.
