Asus ROG Phone 5 leaks in two colors in new renderers

Gaming smartphones have become a niche of their own in the smartphone industry, and the Asus ROG Phone series has consistently been among the best options. The next generation of this device is apparently launching tomorrow, but before this release, official-looking renderings of the Asus ROG Phone 5 hit the web, showing two color versions.

Shared on Twitter, Ishan Agarwal released a handful of images of the Asus ROG Phone 5, revealing the familiar design in its 2021 iteration. Frankly, not a ton has changed, with just a few minor design tweaks. For example, there is a mysterious red panel that has a beautiful “GL HF!” easter egg printed on it. There is also a matrix-style section that certainly looks like it will be customizable, perhaps acting like what Asus offers on its Zephyrus G14 laptop.

Two USB-C ports are still in use, there is still a headphone connector and the screen still has some decent sized bezels at the top / bottom. I must say, however, that this is certainly the cleanest-looking design for a ROG phone to date.

Notably, the Asus ROG Phone 5 will be released in two different colors, a first for the series. So far, it has always been available only in black / gray, but this year, a white color is on the way, because, again, Ishan Agarwal shared on your Twitter account. The white variant looks elegant, especially with its blue details and black side grille.

As far as specs are concerned, the ROG Phone 5 is almost using the Snapdragon 888 processor, certainly with some insane cooling technology behind the scenes as well. Also last week, a press release unexpectedly confirmed that this phone will be available with up to 18 GB of RAM. That’s right, eighteen. With most other Android flagships reaching 8-12 GB, 18 GB is just absurd, but that seems right for a phone with the literally “Republic of Gamers” brand. Will this amount mean anything to performance? Probably not.
