AstraZeneca Launches Covid-19 Vaccine Data Showing 76% Efficacy

AstraZeneca PLC released more data from essential trials for its Covid-19 vaccine, saying the injection was 76% effective in preventing Covid-19 with symptoms in a more complete analysis of the study results than the company had previously provided.

AstraZeneca said its latest issue on vaccine effectiveness was based on an analysis of 190 cases of symptomatic Covid-19 in the study, 49 more than the company had previously analyzed.

Despite the additional cases, the vaccine’s performance was in line with what AstraZeneca had initially reported.

The London-based pharmacist came to attention earlier this week, after providing preliminary data from the trial, indicating that her vaccine was 79% effective in 141 subjects.

An independent study monitoring board said the data was out of date, prompting the United States ‘National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to issue an unusual statement, raising experts’ concerns.
