Tennessee’s assistant director of sports performance, Byron Jerideau, “must accept a similar position” in South Carolina, John Brice of FootballScoop said Sunday night.

Jerideau joined the Tennessee force team under Craig Fitzgerald in 2018, Jeremy Pruitt’s first season in Knoxville. After Fitzgerald took over the conditioning and strength of the New York Giants after the 2019 season, Jerideau remained on the team while AJ Artis took over as the strength coach.

Before reaching Knoxville, Jerideau was an assistant to the strength trainer in South Carolina for two seasons. He also helped with recruitment and worked closely with the Gamecocks defensive line unit. Jerideau played football for the Gamecocks after starting his football career at Fort Scott Community College, Kansas. He helped lead the Greyhounds to a record 11-1 and national championship, with a total defeat of 16 tackles and blocking five field goals

Jerideau made 57 career tackles during his time in South Carolina, including eight loss tackles and six sacks. He played in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and played for the San Diego Chargers in 2013 to end his football career.

His strength and conditioning career began when he accepted the role of football strength and conditioning intern at the University of Houston in spring 2015. He then spent the 2015 season as an assistant football strength coach at the Appalachian State.

Jerideau joins Shane Beamer’s initial coaching staff in South Carolina after Beamer left Oklahoma to replace Will Muschamp. Beamer hired Luke Day as his primary strength trainer over the weekend. Jerideau will work with Day, who leaves Marshall to take over with the Gamecocks.
