Asian woman, 69, thrown to the ground, assaulted in a daytime attack on the Bay Area

An Asian-American woman was violently pushed to the ground, arrested and robbed in Daly City, the latest in a wave of attacks on people of Asian descent in the bay area and across the country.

The attack on the 69-year-old man was captured by cameras on Thursday at about 3:30 pm. A woman can be seen walking near Serravista and Norwood avenues when someone runs after her and pushes her down. The suspect then takes one of his bags, looks inside it and then decides to go back to her to get another bag, resulting in another scary fight. After the suspect runs away, the woman can be seen waving her arms for help.

Daly City police told KRON that the woman was treated for her injuries at the scene. The police are still looking for a suspect.

“Last weekend, we responded to several street robberies. In each case, the suspects drove to the area and confronted a woman who was walking,” the Daly City police tweeted last week. “The suspects took the victims’ bags or backpacks and fled the vehicle. We are working on the tracks. Please be careful.”

The random attack came two days after a series of shots believed to have been carried out by a 21-year-old man in three massage parlors in Atlanta, leaving at least eight dead, six of whom were Asian women. In the bay area, a litany of attackers is targeting elderly Asians – leaving several dead and many fearful of being outdoors. Last week, Pak Ho, a 75-year-old man in Oakland, died after a robbery in which he suffered brain damage.

That attack came less than 48 hours after Danilo Yu Chang, a 59-year-old Filipino Chinese man, was beaten and unconscious.

Stop AAPI Hate released its hate crime statistics on Tuesday; the majority of reported victims were women.
