Those over 12 are invited to take a test preparing a song from the show (scores are available at the event on the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AndyGriffithPlayhouse/) and will be asked to read the provided scenes. Playing with fire (PG), Sunday, January 5, at 4 pm and 7 pm; Monday, January 6 and Wednesday, January 8, at 7pm every night. A team of robust firefighters (John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key and John Leguizamo) face their opponent when trying to rescue three undisciplined children.

The current war (PG-13), Friday, January 10, at 7 pm; Saturday, January 11th and Sunday, January 12th, at 4pm and 7pm every day; Monday, January 13th and Wednesday, January 15th, at 7pm. The dramatic story of the fierce race between electricity titans Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and his partner, novice genius Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Hoult) to determine which electrical system would power the modern world.

Charlotte’s Web (G), Wednesday, January 15th, at 4pm. A young woman named Fern rescues a little piglet, creates it as if it were her own and calls it Wilbur. However, after Wilbur becomes a pig, she is forced to sell it to her uncle Homer Zuckerman. In Zuckerman’s barn, Wilbur discovers that in the winter, he will be slaughtered. Fearing for her life, Charlotte, a gentle and wise spider who befriended the lonely Wilbur, swears to save her life.

Improv Group, second and fourth Sunday of each month, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Andy Griffith Playhouse, free of charge. Join Tyler Matanick for improvisation, inspiration and lots of fun!

Gold Notes, a community choir, Tuesdays, 10 am, Andy Griffith Museum Theater, free for members of the Surry Arts Council ($ 10 annual subscription). This recreational singing group welcomes visitors to listen or sing their favorite songs every week. They serve as ambassadors for the Arts Council singing in nursing homes, retirement centers and the local hospital. Led by Sylvia Lowry, performer and retired music educator.

Special Line of Friends Dance, Tuesdays, 11am, Andy Griffith Museum Theater, free. Come and learn fun routines from the municipality’s artistic directors.

Clogging Classes, Tuesdays, 5 pm to 8:30 pm, Andy Griffith Museum Theater. Various levels available, contact Surry Arts Council or www.rhythmicexpressionclogging.com for additional information.

Painting – Activity, Tuesdays, 10 / 1-10 / 22, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, SAC Photo Gallery, $ 30. A great lesson for artists of all skill levels, who will explore your personal painting style with individual instructions in a relaxed atmosphere it’s fun. Suitable for adults and teenagers.

Youth Performance Group: Everyone is Eaten by Sharks, Tuesdays, 10/09/11/05, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Andy Griffith Playhouse, $ 60. The Surry Arts Council Youth Acting Troupe meets in 8-10 week sessions to put together an act show with a public performance . If you missed this one, keep an eye on the next one that starts in November!

Performance in musical theater Class, Tuesdays, 10 / 1-10 / 22, 5-6 pm, Andy Griffith Playhouse, $ 30. This class focuses on acting while singing. We will work on how to tell a story through music. Perfect for working on listening skills or getting more comfortable singing in front of other people! Suitable for over 8 years.

Line Dance, Wednesdays, 10 am, Andy Griffith Museum Theater, Free for Surry Arts Council (annual membership costs $ 10. Come and learn fun routines and do low-impact exercises. Led by Shelby Coleman

Kids Art (ages 9 to 12), Wednesdays, 4 pm to 5 pm, Surry Arts Council Photo Gallery, $ 30 per month. From finger painting to portraiture, come and explore the incredible world of art! All materials provided.

Drawing and Painting Class, Wednesdays, 2-10 / 23, 5-6 pm, SAC Photo Gallery, $ 30. We will dive into the basics of drawing and painting, with a focus on perspective, color and composition. A great class for students of all skill levels. We will use pencils, pens, acrylic paint and watercolors. Suitable for ages 11 and up.

Free TAPS dance classes for young people with flat feet Thursday, 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm, historic Earle Theater. Join instructor Shelby Coleman to learn this fun and percussive traditional dance. This program is sponsored in part by a TAPS grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

TAPS free (Traditional Arts Programs) Music Lessons for Young People on Thursdays, from 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm, for violin and mandolin classes; 18h15-18h45 for guitar and banjo. Historic Earle Theater. Award-winning musician and teacher Jim Vipperman offers instructions and instruments. Come learn violin, mandolin, guitar or banjo! This program is sponsored in part by a TAPS grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Free Jam Session, Thursdays, 19h, historic Earle Theater. Local musicians and visitors are welcome. The music ranges from bluegrass and old times to gospel and country. The musicians take turns playing, singing and supporting others. Many just come to sit and listen or dance. This program is supported in part by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

WPAQ Merry-Go-Round, Saturdays from 11 am to 1:30 pm, Historic Earle Theater, $ 8, which includes entrance to the Andy Griffith Museum. The WPAQ Merry-Go-Round is the second longest live radio broadcast in the country (second only to the Grand Ole Opry). The WPAQ radio station, 740 AM, produces this weekly live broadcast from local, regional and national artists.
