Arsenal transfer round: creative search for midfielders accelerates with Mesut Ozil to seal the exit

Mesut Ozil is about to finally seal his departure from Arsenal – more than 10 months after his last appearance for the club.

The midfielder – who assisted in his victory over West Ham last March – would have agreed to terminate his contract with the Gunners, paving the way for his transfer to Turkish giant Fenerbahçe.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are linked to several attacking midfielders in an attempt to reinforce their creative options.

One of his previous targets is to negotiate with an unspecified English club, while another is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season.

There is also an update on Arsenal’s search for a new goalkeeper to replace Bernd Leno.

Here is the summary of Sunday’s Arsenal transfer.

Mesut Ozil’s move to Fenerbahçe took a big step towards finishing, after the midfielder agreed, in principle, to terminate his contract with Arsenal.

Ozil, 32, said he would see the remaining six months of his £ 350,000 weekly business in the Emirates.

But The Athletic reports that the winner of the World Cup in Germany is willing to terminate his contract to pave the way for the move to Fenerbahçe.

The Turkish giants have publicized the change on social media, while Ozil traveled to the Emirates for what may be the last time.

Attacking midfielder update

Arsenal remains closely linked to several midfielders from across Europe as they seek to resolve their lack of creativity.

The 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday revealed his shortcomings in the forefront, and young Emile Smith Rowe would benefit from competition for the eleventh role.

French Outlet Telefoot says Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson is in talks with an anonymous English club about a transfer in January.

Sanson, 26, has been linked to Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham in previous transfer windows.

Meanwhile, the German publication Bild says that Julian Draxler will not leave Paris Saint-Germain in the January window – but said he will name his next club in March.

Draxler’s contract with Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and the versatile offensive midfielder has often been praised for moving to the Emirates in recent seasons.

Arsenal are eager to sign a new reserve goalkeeper and have selected Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman, according to football.london .

Alex Runarsson has not been convincing since he left Dijon last summer, while Woodman, 23, won the Golden Glove when England won the U-20 World Cup in 2017.

He is on loan for five seasons at St James’ Park and has been impressing for the last season and a half with Swnasea.

Woodman has kept 13 clean sheets in 22 league games this season, while the report adds that his father is Arsenal’s under-23 goalkeeper.
