Reid was an elite coach long before last season, and he should never have taken a Super Bowl title for people to admit that. One of the best offensive heads in football for almost two decades, he never stops evolving, never stops fixing. He and Eric Bieniemy are responsible for the league’s most explosive attack and continue to find new ways to contribute to what they do. Everything is still based on the West Coast principles that Reid always used as the basis for his attack, but they infused concepts of propagation, optional routes and races, heavy movements and more. It’s fantastic. And Spagnuolo totally changed that defense when he arrived last year, and it got even better in year 2. Everyone here does his job extremely well.

Despite having more than 200 victories under his belt, Reid may have needed last year’s Super Bowl victory to earn the respect and recognition he deserves. Although the veteran coach has been singled out as an innovator and QB guru based on his work with Alex Smith, Donovan McNabb and others throughout his career, it was his collaboration with Mahomes over the past three seasons that earned him the status of gold like an offensive wizard. Reid devised an attack that illuminates leaderboards across the league, using a variety of fun and creative game calls that showcase the exceptional talents of his quarterback and perimeter game creators. Mahomes, 25, won the league as a generational talent with an extraordinary combination of talent for the arm, athleticism, instincts and intelligence. He can play the game inside or outside the script, while making jaw-dropping moves that separate him from the others in position. He is a stunning young player with an NFL MVP and a Super Bowl MVP already sitting on his mantle, and it is difficult to challenge his position as the best QB1 in the game.

I was very interested in measuring the performance of defenders when they are playing off the platform. In other words, when the body or posture is not in the ideal pitch position (legs, hips, shoulders, arm alignment). My general premise is that success in this area is part of how the position is evolving in the NFL, based on college trends (the provision of QBs for new schools) and professional players taking advantage of these physical attributes. SPOILER ALERT: Patrick Mahomes is ridiculous off the platform. So far, I’ve only measured five full seasons, so consider this a preview of some articles / discoveries to come. But when launching off the platform, Mahomes is almost 4% more accurate in terms of percentage completion than any other QB that has attempted at least 50 passes off the platform in this period. (The Chiefs’ QB is 65.9, while Deshaun Watson is in second place with 62.0.) This is a cooler note than superpredictive, because I will give you more about Kansas City after your goodbye, but it is important to note that the victory percentage for the Chiefs’ Lombardi Trophy is exactly the same as the Bills’s chance of reach the Super Bowl, which exemplifies how valuable this farewell is this season at AFC.

Too much chalk here? Right. But I think the advantage of playing at home will matter in this year’s playoffs, with teams more exhausted than usual. And I came very close to staying with Saints to win the whole thing – this really is the last chance for the current group, if you look at the situation of next year’s capitalization. But I cannot bet against Mahomes on the big stage.

Pittsburgh ended the regular season with the fewest sacks allowed (14) and the most defensive on record (56), so this must be an interesting match when it comes to examining both sides of the ball. But with how inconsistent this Steelers’ secondary has been and with all the weapons the Chiefs have in the attack, it will be difficult not to choose Kansas City to repeat as AFC champions. The Chiefs enter the postseason as favorites to win the Super Bowl LV, and I have, at the very least, repeated themselves as owners of the conference.

Kelce had a phenomenal receiving season, regardless of position. The tight end picked up 105 passes for 1,416 yards, the second highest of any league pass receiver, and he ended tied for fifth in the touchdown reception with 11. His 2.7 yards won per route race were the second most among the tight ends (minimum 150 routes), and he did most of his damage as part of Kansas City’s creative offense, which often moved him. Kelce picked up 76 of his receptions, won 1,080 yards and scored 10 touchdowns on targets lined up in the slot or wide this season, marks that are all the most important among the tight end. No team uses its tight end in a wide range of situations with such a level of success, and the Chiefs’ approach has produced an exceptional year for him.

Film review: Assessing the future of the Chiefs’ offensive line
Seeing players like Byron Pringle, Mike Danna, Darwin Thompson and Darius Harris go out and compete and even shine in the game is a good sign for the playoffs. Although none of these players is the holder of the playoff, they will see the playing time. An opportunity to add field experience is invaluable. The other part of the assessment is the future list – that is, 2021 and beyond.
It is no secret that an area of the squad that needs an influx of talent is the offensive line. That’s why a game like Week 17 was good for the Chiefs, as it provided a risk-free view for some of the younger players along the offensive line and allowed the team to see how those players performed in a game situation. .
