‘Arrow’ spinoff passed to CW

‘Green Arrow and The Canaries’ marks the true end of the DC Comics series that started the so-called ‘Arrow-versse’.

It is the real end of an era at the CW.

The network forwarded the request Arrow by-product Green Arrow and Canaries for the series. The drama, which aired as a backdoor pilot during the final season of the flagship last year, followed the women of Arrow: Mia Smoak / Green Arrow by Katherine McNamara and the Canaries, Laurel Lance by Katie Cassidy and Dinah Drake by Juliana Harkavy.

The news comes almost a year later Arrow ended its eight-season season on the CW. The starring Stephen Amell helped launch the DC Comics era on Mark Pedowitz’s youngest broadcast network. With Arrow, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, the series launched the so-called Arrow-verse consisting of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Supergirl, Batwoman It is the next Superman and Lois.

With the decision to forward a serial order to Green Arrow and Canaries, The CW is looking at a new development for what remains of the DC-verse. The network is teaming up with Ava Duvernay for a new DC Comics drama that can be connected to existing properties. Super producer Berlanti is also preparing Analgesic, a spinoff of Black Lightning. The latest drama is ending its season this year with its fourth and final season. Supergirl will also complete his run this season after six seasons.

Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz and Guggenheim wrote the script for Green Arrow and Canaries. Since then, Schwartz has switched to a Netflix show from DC Comics (Sweet tooth), while Guggenheim is preparing the LA Law sequence for NBC.

Meanwhile, The CW has not yet made a decision on its The 100 prequela, with other pilots The lost boys and Maverick still in contention.
