A U.S. Army sergeant on vacation was discovered with a deadly shot in Texas, military officials said.
Sgt. Jessica Mitchell – who was assigned to the San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Joint Base – was found with several gunshot wounds around 3 am on New Year’s Day in a vehicle along Interstate 10 in San Antonio, she said. the WTXF news station.
The 30-year-old man was found by firefighters responding to a report of a vehicle collision.
The Dodge Challenger in which Mitchell was discovered had bullet holes in the driver’s side window and door, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
Mitchell, who had no pulse, was taken to the University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Friday, the base said.
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of Sergeant Jessica Mitchell. Our sincere condolences go out to your family and friends, ”said Major-General Dennis LeMaster in a statement obtained by Express-News.
“We are focused on supporting Sergeant Mitchell’s family as well as his soldiers during this extremely difficult time.”
Mitchell, a dentistry expert, has been assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence since August 2019 and previously worked at a joint-based dental clinic, according to military officials.
The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division and the San Antonio Police Department have launched an investigation into his shooting death.
Her sister said that Mitchell made at least one post on social media about “touching the new year” hours before his body was discovered.
