Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers announced last year that they were breaking up after a decade of marriage, and the “last straw” supposedly came after Chambers discovered his continued infidelity.

In a new Vanity Fair article about Hammer’s family legacy and worrying allegations made against him in recent months, sources said Chambers filed for divorce after Hammer decided to leave his family in the middle of the COVID-19 quarantine.

“The Hammers were in expensive family therapy, but for Elizabeth, the indiscretions – and most notably her decision to flee her family during a global pandemic – were the last straw,” reported Julie Miller of Vanity Fair. “When Armie landed in the United States, he mistakenly sent an obscene text message to someone else to his ex-wife. Elizabeth filed for divorce shortly after.”

According to a close friend of Chambers, Hammer confessed to a “unique” cheating offense shortly after the birth of his son in 2017. The same friend told Vanity Fair that, years later, Chambers “found evidence of a case that Armie was having with a colleague. “

Chambers and Hammer representatives did not immediately return Insider’s request for comment.

Hammer started to become a trend on social media in January, after being accused of sending direct messages to the NSFW that involved discussions about sexual acts and cannibalism. He then announced that he was stepping down from a planned movie with Jennifer Lopez, “Shotgun Wedding”.

In a statement to Variety, the actor said: “I am not responding to these rumors – statements, but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot, in good conscience now, leave my children for 4 months to film in the Republic Dominican. “

In February, Chambers posted a lengthy statement on Instagram, seeming to allude to reports about her ex-husband.

“For weeks, I’ve been trying to process everything that happened,” Chambers wrote, adding that she was “shocked, heartbroken and devastated” by what she had recently learned.

“Disgust aside, I am listening and will continue to listen and educate myself on these sensitive issues. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know,” said Chambers in the Instagram post.

In Thursday’s Vanity Fair article, sources said Chambers felt “taken aback by the left, the right and the center” with the charges against her ex-husband.

“Elizabeth told friends that although she is scared herself, she is projecting strength to children and trying to find occasional humor in the dark,” reported Miller. “She’s joking with friends that the only thing that makes sense to her, looking back on her wedding, is the Netflix movie starring Zac Efron as Ted Bundy – ‘Extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile.'”

Bundy was a serial killer and rapist who confessed to the murder of at least 30 girls and young women in the 1970s. In “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”, Efron played the notorious man, who was executed on death row in 1989, with a controversial amount of charisma and charm.
