Armie Hammer leaves the making of the TV series ‘The Godfather’

Armie Hammer will not star in The ofert, the next Paramount Plus series that pulls the curtain in the production of The Godfather, Variety reports.

Hammer was chosen for the role of Godfather producer Al Ruddy. The series tells the behind-the-scenes story of the 1972 film production, detailing Ruddy’s experiences working on the landmark film. The real-life Ruddy serves as an executive producer on the 10-episode limited series. It is unclear who will replace Hammer in the lead role.

Earlier this month, the actor also left the film romcom Forced marriagestarring Jennifer Lopez. Hammer’s departure from these next two projects follows the news of several leaked messages that were supposedly sent by the actor between 2016 and 2020. The sexting messages were presented as screengrabs and shared via Instagram.

Unverified text messages detail extremely sinister sexual fantasies, including acts of cannibalism. Following his departure from Forced marriage, Hammer issued a statement, saying: “I am not responding to these shitty allegations, but in the light of the wicked and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot, in good conscience, now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a Republic film. “
