Mexican officials say armed men on two motorcycles broke into a weekend party and stole those in the house. Then they returned a few minutes later and opened fire, killing six men and a woman
MEXICO CITY – Armed men on two motorcycles stormed a weekend party and robbed those in the house. Then they returned a few minutes later and opened fire, killing six men and a woman, officials in central northern Mexico reported Sunday.
Jalisco state prosecutors said the attack occurred on Saturday night. Jalisco has long been home to the cartel of the same name, but the attack took place near the border with the state of Zacatecas, where several drug gangs are fighting for territory.
A shooting attack on another group in the neighboring state of Michoacan injured several people. State police said three assailants opened fire on partygoers in the city of Uruapan. Local media reported that there were children at the party and among the injured.
Although authorities in most Mexican states have discouraged parties during the coronavirus pandemic, there has been little enforcement. Mexico’s federal government has discouraged states from arresting or fining people for such behavior.
