Arlington Safeway stores are offering vaccine consultations

(Updated at 17:10) Several Safeway stores in Arlington are offering consultations for COVID-19 vaccines in Arlington amid high demand for vaccinations.

Commitments are only available to people over 65.

Safeway stores in Arlington that appeared on the company’s vaccination appointment site after 1 pm include locations at 2500 N. Harrison Street, 3713 Lee Highway in Cherrydale and 5101 Wilson Blvd in Bluemont. Shops in the McLean, Falls Church and DC area are also listed.

At the time of publication, consultations were available for the second week of March. The hours available in previous weeks had already been filled.

“Three of our stores in Arlington will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines tomorrow,” confirmed a company spokeswoman to ARLnow on Tuesday evening. “Right now, the doses allocated are very limited.”

Safeway is part of a federal vaccination program for national pharmacy chains and networks. CVS, another partner in the federal vaccination program, started offering consultations in Arlington earlier this month, but its consultation website reports that CVS locations across Virginia are all fully booked.

Walgreens stores in Virginia are expected to start vaccinating soon after the company receives its first shipment of nearly half a million doses of vaccine on Thursday.

Arlington County began making appointments for people aged 65 to 74 on Friday, February 12, after vaccinating only a few front-line employees and those aged 75 or older.

As of Tuesday morning, the county passed the 10,000-person mark fully vaccinated with two vaccines. A total of 31,553 doses of vaccine have been administered in Arlington, and 10,157 people have been fully vaccinated, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
