An Arkansas man was arrested and charged Thursday with an attack on a police officer during the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Peter Francis Stager was accused of obstructing, preventing or interfering with a police officer after hitting a uniformed policeman who guarded the entrance to the Capitol with a flagpole during last week’s siege, according to a criminal complaint.
Marc Gustafson of FOX 11 reported that the FBI arrived at a home in Conway, Arkansas on Thursday night, which is believed to be Stager’s residence. Authorities called the house using a megaphone, noting that they had a warrant for Stager’s arrest.
FBI special agent William Kennedy told FOX 11 that Stager later turned himself over to federal and local authorities.

The complaint states that Stager was part of a group of individuals who grabbed the policeman and dragged him down a flight of stairs, before forcing him to “lie on his stomach” and hit “forcibly and repeatedly” on the head and body with “multiple objects”.
The video shows Stager with a large group on the stairs of the Capitol building and holding a flagpole with a United States flag affixed to it. Meanwhile, a second video shows a man, identified as Strager, using the stick to repeatedly strike the officer while he “remained lying on the steps of the United States Capitol building”.
“Everyone there is a traitor, a traitor. Death is the only remedy for what is in that building, ”Stager can be heard in a second video, according to the complaint.

The FBI said it learned of Stager’s identity from a confidential informant who saw the videos on social media.
A second informant said that after speaking to Stager after the January 6 siege, Stager confirmed his own involvement. The informant said Stager said he “did not know that the man he was hitting the ground with the mast was a policeman and that he thought the person he was hitting was Antifa”.
However, the policeman could easily be identified by his freedom with the words “METROPOLITAN POLICE” on the back, prosecutors said.
Stager reportedly told the second informant that he planned to surrender and apologized for assaulting a member of the police. In addition, he insisted to the second informant that he was “‘on’ because he received pepper spray or tear gas and that is why he made the comments he made on camera.”

Kennedy told FOX 11 in a statement to the public “if you were committing a crime, expect it in your own home”, in reference to the January 6 siege. Kennedy also encouraged anyone with additional information or tips for the FBI to call 1-800 FBI-TIPS or the local office at 501-221-9100.
