Arkansas hosts South Carolina for women’s empowerment weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team is calling on all Razorback fans to come to Barnhill Arena for the Hogs’ last home series in the 2020-21 season. Razorbacks host South Carolina for the Women’s Empowerment Weekend on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20. As part of the Women’s Empowerment Weekend, Arkansas will celebrate its six senior citizens on Saturday.

Arkansas (12-8) seems to continue his dominant performance at home, currently 7-3 when playing at Barnhill Arena. Razorbacks enter the weekend after sharing a series with Tennessee last weekend, each game ending in four sets. In Hogs’ 3-1 win over Volunteers on Sunday, Arkansas not only broke a three-game losing streak for Tennessee, but also set a new season record with 61 deaths and 58 assists in four sets, registering an impressive hitting 0.304. percentage as a team.

Freshman Taylor Head had a full weekend in Cardinal and White. She registered her 12 league leaderº double-double, keeping in mind that no other player outside the Razorback list has more than seven. Head ended the series of two matches with 24 deaths and 21 digs. At the end of the trial, the Florida native recorded 28 attempts at reception over the weekend and did not make a single mistake, improving her season average to 0.984.

Gamecocks go to Fayetteville with a 12-8 record as well, as both teams are tied for fifth place in the Southeast Conference. Looking at its last three series, South Carolina is 3-3 and was defeated in 0.273 to 0.240. The offensive charge was carried by freshman Riley Whitesides, who is hitting 0.282, along with his 3.95 deaths per set.

Arkansas leads the all-time series with South Carolina, winning 27 of the 41 meetings. When playing in Fayetteville, Razorbacks have a 13-6 advantage over Gamecocks.

The two teams met twice last season and Arkansas lost both, including a five-set thriller against the Gamecocks at home. In the nail-biting defeat, veterans Elizabeth Pamphile and Devyn Wheeler and the second Jillian Gillen recorded each of the double-digit deaths, alongside Savannah Downing, who posted 22 digs in the season record for Razorback defense.

The two-game series will be broadcast on SEC Network + with both games set to begin at 7 pm (CT).
