TUCSON, Arizona – Arizonans aged 55 and over will now be eligible to receive the vaccine in some parts of the state.
The Arizona Department of Health Services announced on Monday that its two mass vaccination sites in the Phoenix stadiums will begin scheduling appointments for the youth group. Previously, only people aged 65 and over could schedule an appointment.
AZDHS says 50,000 new vaccination schedules will be available at State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium this week. Registration for these appointments opens Tuesday at noon.
The state health department also said it will allow local health departments to reduce the eligibility age when 55 percent of the previous age category has been vaccinated or when they feel there is no longer a demand for the vaccine. Workers considered “essential” will still receive a vaccination indication through their employers.
