Arizona homeowners planting trees in a backyard find a buried backpack full of guns: police

Homeowners in Arizona were gardening in their backyard on Sunday when they discovered a disturbing finding: a buried bag full of guns, officials said.

The owners discovered the bag full of rusty rifles and revolvers while digging a hole near the fence in their yard to plant a tree, the Phoenix Police Department said. After realizing what the bag contained, they immediately called the police.

The owners handed over the weapons to the detectives, who will investigate whether the weapons were used in any crime, the department said.

Neighbor Yajaira Enriquez told FOX10 Phoenix that the discovery was “distressing” but also left many questions unanswered.

“Why did you bury them there?” Enriquez said. “There has to be a reason.”

The family has lived in the house for four years, reported AZFamily. Before that, it had been rented to a number of individuals.
