Arizona Diamondbacks and Asdrubal Cabrera reach 1-year agreement, reports say

PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks has agreed to a $ 1.75 million one-year contract with veteran Asdrubal Cabrera, according to several media reports.

Cabrera can earn up to $ 1.05 million in performance bonuses. The deal was first reported by the MLB Network.

The 35-year-old is a two-time All-Star who was with the Washington Nationals in 2020, hitting 0.242 with eight homers and 31 RBIs in the reduced pandemic season. Cabrera appears to be an ideal fit for the second base Diamondbacks, which would move the versatile Ketel Mars back to the center field.

Mars had a great year in 2019 while playing mostly on the central field, but was moved back to second base in 2020.

Cabrera was an All-Star with the Cleveland Indians in 2011 and 2012. He played all four infield positions during his career and has nearly 1,700 career hits, along with 188 home runs.

The Diamondbacks have made some moves in recent weeks, after a quiet low season. They hired veteran pitcher Joakim Soria for a $ 3.5 million one-year contract.

Arizona is emerging from a disappointing record of 25-35 in 2020, which placed them last in NL West.
