Miami Dolphins hiring Charlie Frye as coach of defenders
The Miami Dolphins have not yet hired an offensive coordinator and it is speculated that they are waiting for a coach currently in the playoffs. Could that someone be Ken Dorsey?
Ken Dorsey is an intriguing candidate for the Dolphins’ OC slot. Hired by Sean McDermott in 2019 to train defenders, Dorsey changed Josh Allen’s career. The question fans are asking is whether or not he is the target of Brian Flores.
Earlier today, the Dolphins hired Charlie Frye to coach the QB team. This change was made without an OC on the team, but what’s interesting is that Dorsey and Frye were teammates in Cleveland during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. They remained close friends.
Many in league circles believe that Dorsey is ready for the jump to OC. Brian Daboll, who currently serves as OC for the Bills, was expected to leave for a job at HC. It will not happen this year. Dorsey was in line for the promotion, which is also not going to happen anymore.
Dorsey has a history in Miami leading the Hurricanes to a National Championship and was runner-up Heisman Trophy. He set most hurricane crossing records during his time there. His professional career was far from great.
As a coach, Dorsey would make a lot of sense to Brian Flores and could give the Dolphins some consistency in the position for several years. He would also be a good teacher for Tua Tagovailoa.
Obviously, we don’t know what Flores is thinking, but Dorsey may be the target. Hiring Frye would make a lot of sense and the fact that the Dolphins haven’t hired anyone indicates that they may be waiting for a playoff team to end their season.
