Arctic cold and the potential for a significant winter storm

THIS NIGHT: Partly cloudy and freezing cold. Low from 0 (-10 to 5). Light and variable winds.

SUNDAY: Very cloudy. Snowfall developing in northern PA during night hours of 40%. Maximum of 25 (22-26). Wind Speed: 3-8 mph.

Forecasting discussion:

With less clouds tonight and calm winds, temperatures will plummet tonight. The areas west of I-81 will be flirting with temperatures close to zero, while the east of I-81 will be below freezing. Temperatures recovered very well tomorrow afternoon, however, when they warmed up in the mid-1920s.

The main story in the climate department tonight is the potential for a major winter storm from Sunday night to Tuesday. Models are indicating that it is likely to be a long-term snow event that may leave some sites buried under 30 inches of snow.
