Approximately 6,300 received lower doses of the COVID-19 vaccine than those recommended at the Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND, California – Approximately 6,300 people who received the COVID-19 vaccine at the Oakland Coliseum last week may have received slightly less than the dosage recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but are not advised to repeat the dose, the California Department of Public Health said Monday.

People who received the dose of the Pfizer vaccine on February 28 after 4:30 pm and March 1 between 8 am and 3 pm may have received the slightly lower doses, the CDPH said in a statement.

The vaccine dose recommended by the CDC is 0.3 milliliters, but doses of 0.15 milliliters or more are still sufficient and do not require the recipient to repeat the dose, according to the CDPH.

Vaccine recipients affected at the Colosseum may have received dosages of 0.22 milliliters, “which is well within the range defined by the CDC,” the CDPH said in a statement.

The local vaccine team, which is operated jointly by the California Emergency Services Office and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, corrected the dosage discrepancy on March 1, according to the CDPH.

People who received the first dose during the affected window on February 28 and March 1 should still receive the second dose about three weeks after the first dose is administered.

CDPH officials also sent a letter to those who received the slightly lower doses, informing them of the difference in dosage and reminding them of the vaccine’s two-dose schedule.

People with doubts about the dose of the COVID-19 vaccine they received can contact CDPH at [email protected] or by calling (833) 422-4255.
