Apple will replace 2016/2017 MacBook Pro batteries that refuse to charge

If your MacBook Pro refuses to maintain a charge above 1 percent, you can get a replacement battery for free. Apple launched a battery replacement program for the MacBook Pro 2016 and 2017 models with this issue. The technology giant has just released macOS 11.2.1 and a supplementary update to macOS Catalina 10.15.7, which aimed to fix the bug that prevented the battery of affected computers from being charged. But if the patches don’t work, you can contact Apple or take your laptop to a service center.

Apple claims that “a very small number of customers” are experiencing the problem and that the battery health status of the affected laptops shows the “Recommended Service” warning. You can view your device’s battery health status by clicking the battery icon or going to System Preferences. The MacBook Pro models that may be suffering from this problem are listed below:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, four 3-port Thunderbolt)

  • MacBook Pro (13 inch, 2017, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

  • MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2016)

  • MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2017)

This is not the first replacement program that Apple launched for these particular laptops. In 2018, he started a replacement program for the 13-inch MacBook Pros manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017, because his batteries were at risk of swelling in the event of a malfunction. It also launched a keyboard service program for models, which suffer from “sticky” keys and are unresponsive.
