Apple Watch Series 7 may bring blood glucose monitor, patent describes the technology

Apple may just bring a new health-oriented technology to its watch, which will arrive later this year. The new watch, with the tip of the Apple Watch Series 7, may be able to monitor blood glucose without drawing blood. And a new patent now shows how this technology can be implemented. The patent application filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) entitled “Terahertz Spectrosopy and Imaging In Dynamic Environments With Ambient Sensors” states that the iPhone manufacturer can use absorption spectroscopy to obtain non-invasive blood sugar readings.

It was also mentioned that the technology could use terahertz electromagnetic radiation instead of using light to pass through the body and detect “gas, health / quality of liquid or solid materials”. But the patent also mentions a potential problem. The implementation of the technology can result in the loss of water resistance of the watch. Blood sugar reading must also be accurate. If the reading is a little wrong, the user may end up taking too much insulin and cause an attack of hypoglycemia or hypoglycemia, reports Phonearena.

What’s more, technology can mean faster battery consumption than before and whether the watch can fit all components. In all this would mean an increase in the price of the device.

The report adds that the same technology can be used to detect skin cancer and other related problems. However, while the patent does not necessarily mean that Apple will definitely bring blood glucose monitors to the Apple Watch, it does mean that the company is at least considering working on it. For what it’s worth, Samsung should also bring a blood glucose monitor on its next smartwatch, due out later this year.
