Apple may be working on an entirely new variation of its market-leading Apple Watch, which may include a sturdier case designed specifically for people who practice extreme sports, such as climbing. This is according to a Saturday report by Bloomberg, which quoted people familiar with the matter.

The new Apple Watch variant is sometimes called the Explorer Edition at the company, the report says, and may have a rubberized structure and offer greater impact resistance than current models, which include the flagship Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Low-cost SE as well as Hermes and Nike brand editions.

Bloomberg sources said Apple talked about the launch of Explorer Edition in late 2021 or 2022 at the very least. The sources also emphasize that, like any product still in development, this gadget can be canceled or postponed. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apple Watch dominates the smart watch category with 40% of the market, notes Bloomberg.
