Apple TV app now available on the latest Google Chromecast

The Apple TV app is now available for Google Chromecast 2020. It was announced in December that Apple’s streaming app, which offers access to the original Apple TV Plus, would come to the strangely named Chromecast with Google TV. Starting today, owners of the excellent $ 50 device can download the Apple TV and start using it.

Apple TV originals like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and For all mankind will appear in Google TV search results and recommendations. Noteworthy, you’ll also be able to add original Apple shows and movies to the Google TV universal watch list. Some larger streaming services, like Netflix, have decided not to be on the watch list in the months since the launch of Chromecast, as they apparently prefer to keep this type of functionality within the app itself. How 9to5Google reported in November, the Google TV mobile app doesn’t even include any more Netflix recommendations.

Apple TV is also getting integration with Google Assistant on Chromecast; you can start watching any of Apple’s originals with a voice command.

In addition to being home to original Apple programming, the Apple TV app offers easy streaming of your rented and purchased movies / TV shows from Apple. And, as with other platforms, any complementary Apple TV subscription you may have – CBS All Access, Showtime, etc. – will be available in the app on Chromecast with Google TV.

Jonathan Zepp, director of media and entertainment at Google, says that “in addition to the Chromecast with Google TV, the Apple TV app will also be available on Google TVs by Sony and TCL”.
