Apple starts cutting App Store fees for smaller developers

Apple is giving some small iOS application developers a surprise Christmas gift.

The iPhone maker has started rolling out its lowest commission rates on the App Store to some creators, reducing its rates on in-app purchases from 30% to 15%.

Apple announced its plan to reduce fees for applications that generate less than $ 1 million a year in November, saying the changes would take effect on January 1, but has been looking at developers earlier, according to a report from Macrumors.

The technology giant from Cupertino, California, defined the cuts, which it calls the “App Store Small Business Program”, as a way for smaller developers “to continue working to innovate and prosper during a period of unprecedented global economic challenge.

In its email to developers, Apple said that if a developer exceeds the $ 1 million limit sometime in 2021, the standard 30% fee will apply for the rest of the year.

But the new fee structure comes when Apple is accused by developers and politicians of exercising monopoly power over its App Store, which is the only way to put software on its iPhones and iPads.
