Apple Silicon iMac Potentially Surface in the Xcode Crash Log

Apple is expected to release a redesigned Apple silicon-powered iMac later this year, and ahead of time, developer Dennis Oberhoff discovered an ARM-based iMac not released in an Xcode crash log for its Mac DaftCloud application.

Oberhoff shared the Xcode fault log on twitter and with 9to5Mac, who has examined the log more closely and believes it to be legitimate.

DaftCloud is a third-party macOS desktop app for the SoundCloud music-sharing site, and it is possible that an Apple engineer was using the app on an Apple silicon iMac prototype, but that’s just speculation. The log indicates that the iMac is running macOS 11.2.1, released in early February, but no additional details can be discerned.

BloombergMark Gurman previously reported that a redesigned iMac with an Apple silicon chip will be launched later this year. Gurman said the design of the new iMac will be inspired by Apple’s next-generation XDR Pro Display, with thinner bezels around the screen, with no metal chin below the screen and a flat back.

Earlier this month, Apple announced that the iMac Pro is being discontinued, while the 512 GB and 1 TB SSD upgrade options are currently unavailable for the 21.5-inch iMac.
