Public beta testers who signed up for Apple’s beta testing program can download updates for iOS and iPadOS‌ 14.5 over the air after installing the appropriate certificate from the Public Beta website on an iOS device.

IOS 14.5 adds a new feature that allows you to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch when wearing a mask, eliminating the need to use a password to enter a ‌iPhone‌ with facial ID when wearing a mask. Use of this feature requires iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4 and is optional. It can be activated in the Settings application under facial ID and password.

Dual-SIM 5G support is now available globally on iPhone 12 devices, so if you have more than one phone number associated with your PiPhone‌, both lines can now take advantage of 5G networks. Previously, Dual-SIM functionality was limited to LTE in all countries except China.

With iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4, AirPlay 2 support is available for Apple Fitness +, which allows a workout played on the ‌iPhone‌ or iPad to be AirPlayed for a smart TV or ‌AirPlay‌ 2 compatible decoder.

The latest PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series X controllers are compatible with the PiPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌ after the update, and there is a new feature that allows Siri to make an emergency call for you.

IOS 14.5 includes a Waze-like crowdsourcing feature for reporting accidents, hazards and speed checks along a route on Maps when getting directions.

There is a new “Report” button available on the Apple Maps app that allows you to tap to report an accident, danger or speed camera at your location on the ‌Apple Maps‌ app, which is a feature that the Waze mapping app offers. Available directly on the iPhone and CarPlay.

iOS and iPadOS 14.5 add a new feature to choose a standard music streaming service to use with ‌Siri‌. So if you prefer Spotify over Apple Music, for example, you can now choose Spotify as the default app to use with ‌Siri‌ and all pedidosSiri‌ music orders will go through Spotify without the need to add “to Spotify “at the end of ‌Siri‌ orders.

Although not yet in the update, iOS 14.5 has code that suggests that Apple is adding Family Sharing functionality to the Apple Card, allowing multiple users to share a single card. iOS 14.5 is the update where Apple will officially enable App Tracking Transparency, so developers will need to request and receive a user’s permission to track their activity on apps and websites for the purpose of ad targeting.

There are new emoji characters, new shortcuts, ‌Apple Music‌ settings and more, with a complete list of changes in iOS 14.5 available in our iOS 14.5 guide.

The iOS 14.5 beta addresses the green tone issue that some PiPhone‌ owners have faced, with Apple confirming that the beta has “optimizations” to help with the problem.

“iOS and iPadOS 14.5 beta 2 include an optimization to reduce the appearance of a weak glow that can appear at low levels of brightness with black backgrounds”, read the notes of Apple’s iOS 14.5 beta.

Some iPhone 11 and eiPhone 12‌ models show a gray or green glow when viewing black backgrounds, a problem that Apple said it was investigating in November. For some users, there are improvements thanks to the optimizations, but for others, the problem still seems to exist, so Apple may have some additional work to do.

Apple said that iOS 14.5 will be released to the public in early spring, so we can expect to see a launch sometime in March, with the spring season officially starting on March 20. Apple also seeded a new tvOS 14.5 beta for fourth and fifth generation Apple TV users who signed up for the public beta.
