Apple News: Foldable iPhone tests, AirPods Pro 2 and more

Foldable iPhone concept feature

This week, in Apple news, we hear about the future of folding iPhones. Apple reportedly completed durability testing on two foldable prototypes. Of course, no one knows whether any of the models will reach commercial status or when that might happen.

In other Apple news, we heard about the display of upcoming iPad Pro models, rumors of AirPods Pro 2, Apple pulling a very inappropriate app from the App Store, that Christmas special by Mariah Carey and more.

See the Apple news summary below for the latest news.

The top news from Apple last week:

  • Foldable IPhones move on to the next stage: According Economic Daily News, Apple could be working on no less than two foldable iPhone prototypes. It is possible that someone looks like the above third-party mock-up. According EDN, the two prototypes were in a durability test phase and both “graduated”, so to speak. It is unlikely that we will see a foldable iPhone in 2021, but this confirms previous rumors that a foldable is on the way.
  • iPad Pro with Mini-LED technology scheduled for the first quarter of 2021: According to a DigiTimes report, Apple could launch a 12.9-inch iPad Pro sometime in the coming months. This new iPad would probably be one of the first – if not the first – company products with Mini-LED technology. Theoretically, this could make the iPad’s screen even better than the next-generation OLED panels. We need to wait and see if this turns out to be true, however.
  • AirPods Pro 2 can come in two sizes: A new hardware leak (found via MacRumors) suggests that there may be two sizes in the next iteration of AirPods Pro. This may be beneficial for people who think that current AirPods are too big or too small, depending on the size of their ear canals.
  • Caviar creates $ 108,000 AirPods Max: If you haven’t turned down the AirPods Max yet because of its ridiculous $ 550 price, could we be interested in spending more than $ 100,000 on a gold-plated model? Russian customization company Caviar is now selling AirPods Max with a “pure gold” finish. There is no word on how much it will make headphones already heavy.
  • Third-party AirPods Max cases finally available: Speaking of AirPods Max, another big complaint besides the price is the bag-like case. Fortunately, third-party companies are already launching solutions, with SFBags.com being one of the first. You can buy a leather case for your new headphones for $ 99.
  • Xiaomi discards the Mi 11 box charger, as does Apple: In a news that everyone expected, Xiaomi announced this week that its new Mi 11 phones will not come with a charger in the box. This is remarkable considering that the company scoffed at Apple just a few months ago for doing the same thing with the iPhone 12 series. However, Xiaomi at least still offers the charger for free to anyone who wants it, something that Apple should also have done.
  • Apple pulls controversial app from the App Store: Apple this week pulled an app from the App Store called Vybe Together. Superficially, the application looks quite normal. However, if you do more research, you will find that the specific intention of the application is to help people organize private parties and bypass local regulations related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The app’s official TikTok account has also been banned.
  • That Mariah Carey Christmas special was apparently a success: On Apple TV Plus, you can watch Mariah Carey’s magical Christmas Special. Apparently, the special was a success enough that Apple asked Carey to do another one for the 2021 holiday season – on an unlimited budget. Seriously. Perhaps Apple might want to make this a tradition?
