Apple Maps will get crowdsourced incident reports with iOS 14.5

Traffic incident reports collected have been a trademark of Waze and Google Maps for years, and now it looks like this functionality will finally come to Apple Maps. As seen by Roadshow, iOS 14.5 beta updates Apple Maps to allow you to report when you see incidents on the road. In its current iteration, the feature offers limited on-screen controls. As you can see in the image MacRumors taken from the beta, you can signal a roadblock as an accident, danger or speed check.

On the other hand, in Waze and Google Maps you have these options, as well as options dedicated to the closing of tracks, construction and much more. However, what can help Apple convince iOS users to abandon Google apps once and for all is that you can access this functionality without touching the iPhone. You can speak to Siri to report when you see a new incident and one that has already been resolved, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel throughout the process. At a time when governments around the world are taking a strict stance on distraction while driving, this is a significant advantage for Apple Maps. Of course, the feature is also compatible with Apple CarPlay.

In addition to the crowdsourced incident report for Maps, iOS 14.5 is gearing up to be a significant launch. It includes a feature that allows you to unlock your iPhone using facial ID, even if you wear a mask, as long as you also have an Apple Watch in hand. It also includes support for Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5 and dual-SIM 5G controllers. Notably, it will also allow you to set up a third-party service that Siri will work with by default when you ask the digital assistant to play music.
