Apple launches iPhone app promoting secret pandemic parties

A controversial iPhone application that promised to connect social butterflies confined to the nearest pandemic party was banned by Apple – but only after a reporter tweeted about it.

Vybe Together, whose slogan is “Start your party, start to rebel”, was removed from the iOS App Store this week, reports The Verge.

“Miss playing beer pong, flirting with strangers and usually just having fun with the crew? Vybe is here for you ”, says the application’s website.

The app remained under the radar for most of his life, until New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz tweeted about it. A day later, the app was gone.

Health experts warned against large internal meetings, as cases of the deadly coronavirus increased in the winter months.

It is not clear when the party’s app was approved by Apple, but with only 25 reviews it appeared to be relatively new. Apple says it conducts a careful application review process at its store, including “more than 500 dedicated specialists worldwide.”

The Cupertino, Calif., Company did not immediately return a request for comment.

Vybe worked by allowing hosts to post about the events they were hosting, which users could then subscribe to. Meetings of more than a few people are illegal in much of the country since the coronavirus began shutting down the United States in March.

Vybe’s Instagram page, which had just 804 followers on Wednesday morning, had an updated description confirming that the “App Store took us down !!!” and swore that “We’ll be back !!”
