Apple launches Chrome extension for iCloud passwords

Apple has released an official extension for Chrome versions for Windows and Mac that allows the use of passwords stored in iCloud Keys. For those who use Chrome as a browser and iCloud Keys instead of a dedicated password manager, this can make switching between Windows and Mac computers much easier.

The launch of the extension means that if you used Safari to automatically generate strong passwords on other platforms, they can now be available to you in Chrome when prompted for a login. Passwords created in Chrome for Windows will also sync with iCloud so they’re also available on Apple devices.

The extension is called iCloud passwords and is now available on the Chrome Web Store. Details of the functionality were revealed prematurely last week in an update to the Windows 10 iCloud app, which listed “Support for iCloud password extension for Chrome” as a new feature, although the extension has not been released or announced.
