Apple is DOWN! Services, including iCloud and Photos, have been stopped

  • Some of Apple’s services are experiencing disruptions from Wednesday afternoon
  • Currently, several iCloud, Photos and Find My Friend services are down
  • The outage started at around 1:30 pm ET, hitting other Apple resources
  • That defeated Apple Music, the App Store and iTunes – but they’re working

Apple is currently experiencing interruptions or partial interruptions in several of its services.

The tech giant’s system status panel shows outages in Photos, Find My Friend and eight iCloud services.

However, iCloud Backup is part of this group, which means that users cannot back up their devices.

Earlier this afternoon, users were experiencing a ‘slow or unavailable’ service with Apple Music, the App Store, iMessage and iTunes – but the bug was fixed in two hours.

The outage started at around 1:30 pm Eastern Time, but it is still affecting many of iCloud’s services and Apple has not said when they will be fixed or what caused them to fail.

Cloud Backup, iCloud Bookmarks & Tabs, iCloud Calendar, iCloud Contacts, iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, iCloud Mail, iCloud Notes and iCloud Storage Upgraders are shown with a red triangle, which means an interruption.

Apple Photos and Find My Friend are also down.

Many of these services, like iCloud Notes and iCloud Calendar, are essential tools for employees who use them to perform daily tasks.

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as this morning Apple said it noticed problems with other services around 8:26 AM ET, according to SlashGear.

And it was more favorable features that fell – the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Music and Apple Music.

And iTunes Store, Mac App Store and Apple Radio were also shown with the red triangle.

The Apple status page reports that these services were launched at 8:26 AM ET and the issues were resolved at 10:43 AM ET.

The page does not share any details about when the service will be restored.

This is the second accident that Apple has faced in the past week, as in January the tech giant released an update to its operating system, iOS 14.4, to fix three security vulnerabilities that ‘may have been actively exploited’ by hackers.

The tech giant released a statement on its Apple support page that shows that two bugs have been identified in the Webkit, the browser engine that powers Safari and one in the central operating system, Kernel.

Many of these services, like iCloud Notes and iCloud Calendar, are essential tools for workers who use them to perform daily tasks

The Kernel flaw has been described as a ‘race condition’ that could allow malicious applications to elevate privileges, but the update fixes it with ‘enhanced blocking’.

Vulnerabilities in WebKit have been fixed with improved restrictions, but without the update, hackers can access devices remotely ‘to cause arbitrary code execution’, says Apple.

Apple rarely announces problems with its systems that could be used by malicious people in malicious activities, but the technology giant is open to receiving reports from others who find a privacy security vulnerability.
