The Bloomberg source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Apple has only started working on the screen so far, but that the tests have an “almost invisible hinge”.

The move would mark a break with Apple’s traditionally flat, sleek, one-piece design and a step towards the folding phones currently on the market made by companies like Motorola, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.

The screen size can go up to the 6.7-inch screen of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, although the company is discussing several options.

Fox Business contacted Apple for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

Although the most valuable company in the world may not be planning to come up with foldable phones for years, if ever, it is bringing other updated products and functions.

The next generation of the iPhone will have minor changes after the launch of the iPhone 12, according to the report, although some of them are seen as critical amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

An on-screen fingerprint sensor – or Touch ID – would make iPhones easier to use in a masked world and add an extra layer of security in addition to their facial recognition scanners.

Finally, Apple discussed a change in wireless charging for some iPhone models, according to the report.
