Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) – Apple tests foldable screen for iPhone: Bloomberg

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is a foldable phone that already exists on the market.

Apple is working on a foldable iPhone, Bloomberg reported.

What happened: Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) has started work on a new iPhone model with a foldable screen.

The technology giant has developed screen prototypes and is still in the process of internal testing, according to Bloomberg. There has been no official decision on any launch, the financial news outlet reported.

The prototype’s screen would make the iPhone bigger and “easier to carry.”

A person familiar with the tests told Bloomberg that the screens would have “an almost invisible hinge with the electronic components positioned behind the screen”.

Why it matters: Apple has yet to announce any major changes to production in 2021, new changes made in 2020 for new designs, packaging conditions and 5G.

But the Cupertino, Calif.-Based company is testing a new feature: an on-screen fingerprint reader to unlock the smartphone.

Under current conditions, where people have to wear masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making facial recognition difficult, this feature would be useful for iPhone users.

Price action: Apple shares fell 0.25% and closed at $ 126.82 in Friday’s post-market, after closing at $ 127.14 during normal hours.
