Apple doesn’t make a MagSafe car charger – here are your options

Getting a MagSafe car charger for your iPhone seems like a simple process, but the current scenario is one of compensations: there are no complete solutions that hold and charge your cordless phone. and are certified by MagSafe to deliver up to 15W of power. However, manufacturers have found alternative solutions.

First, there’s Belkin’s Car Vent Mount Pro, which is the only MagSafe certified car mount and sells for $ 39.99. Being certified doesn’t mean it provides energy, however. You will need to connect your phone with a Lightning cable (which you would have to do anyway for compatibility with wired CarPlay). Technically, this allows you to charge your phone faster than normal wireless charging, but leaves you messing with a cable.

Then there is the Scosche MagicMount, which provides a 20W car adapter, but nothing to connect to. You must provide your own MagSafe puck, which adds $ 39 to the MagicMount price from $ 29.99 to $ 39.99 (which varies by model). While technically receiving MagSafe-certified assembly and charging, this is only because you are using Apple’s own disk.

Just providing the plastic to put around the Apple charger is a common approach. Amazon is full of BYOP car mounts (bring your own disc), and we’ve also seen that with Apple Watch charger accessories. It’s a quick and easy way to provide users with a fully certified experience without having to wait for certification (and without fees for Apple’s Made For iPhone program). The downside is that users need to buy two different things.

Finally, there is the ESR HaloLock, which seems to have everything. It is a unique piece, it magnetically holds your iPhone and provides wireless charging. The only thing missing is MagSafe certification, which means that Apple will only allow your phone to charge with 7.5W. You’ll see many similar products again on Amazon, where the manufacturer copied the MagSafe magnets, but used a standard Qi charger for power. Like disc media, you will get most of the functionality without actually having to be certified, and the product will be suitable for people who are not concerned with fast loading.

This is not to say that fully certified third-party MagSafe car holders will not appear at some point, just that it may take a while. And as the other routes come very close to the real deal, you can expect to see many of them in the meantime.
