Apple Acquires Skydance Animation’s ‘Luck’, ‘Spellbound’

The deal promises that more films and TV series will come from Apple’s multi-year pact with Skydance Animation. Luck and Fascinated were originally created at Paramount, which has a film contract with Skydance. This deal with the studio allowed Skydance, directed by David Ellison, to move the films at its discretion.

Launched in 2010, Skydance is best known for support projects, including the Mission Impossible, Star Trek and Terminator franchises. His television production includes Grace and Frankie and Altered Carbon on Netflix, Jack Ryan on Amazon and Dietland AMC, among other programs.

John Lassetter oversees Skydance’s animation division, which seeks a greater strategy to move beyond traditional platforms to make films for streamers after succeeding with two Netflix hits, 6 underground and The old guard.

Luck, directed by Peggy Holmes and written by Kiel Murray, revolves around the most unlucky girl in the world, who after stumbling across the world never seen before with good and bad luck, must join magical creatures to discover a force more powerful than even his own luck.

Fascinated as an animated musical follows a young woman who sets out to break the spell that divided her kingdom in two, and is directed by Vicky Jenson and written by Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin and Linda Woolverton. The film’s original soundtrack is by Oscar winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater.

AND The search for WondLa is an original animated TV series based on the Tony DiTerlizzi book series. The Apple Original series will be written and produced by executive Lauren Montgomery, with Chad Quant, DiTerlizzi and Gotham Group also serving as executive producers.
