‘Apex Legends’ receives a permanent queue of solo

Apex Legends is finally getting a long-lasting solo mode, if probably not what you expected. Respawn and EA have revealed that they will not just launch Apex for Switch on March 9 along with a Chaos Theory Collection Event (more on that later), but introduce a “no fill” solo queue option. Uncheck a box in the lobby and the combo system will send you into battle without adding teammates. Unfortunately, however, you will still face duos or trios – this is more of a new level of difficulty than the true experience of each one for you that you could wish for.

There are lids to prevent skewed matches. You cannot use this solo queuing in ranked games, and no more than six unfilled players are allowed in a match.

As for the Chaos Theory event? You’ll see the expected amount of themed skins and family heirlooms, but there are also some functional changes coming at the same time. A Survival Slot provides a location for “situational utilities”, including a new Heat Shield item that temporarily protects you from external damage to the ring. The shield is initially launched to help you deal with a “Escalation Takeover” Ring Fury (where the ring pockets will appear within the safe area), but will generally be useful for reviving downed allies or eliminating vulnerable squads.

The acquisition of a caustic city adds a “mousetrap” that promises gold loot items for those who act quickly.

The updates will not change the fundamental mechanics of the game. However, the solo option at least recognizes that many people do not want to have teammates, whether they are frequent lone wolves or simply are not feeling particularly sociable.
