Apex Legends On Switch will offer cross-play, but not cross-progression – for now, at least

Apex Legends arrives on Switch tomorrow, and we were fortunate enough to sit down with the team behind the port recently.

One of the questions that many fans would like to answer is related to cross-progression – an understandable request, given that many people are already playing on other platforms and want to continue this progress on the Switch.

Unfortunately, although the cross game is compatible, Switch owners who already play Apex Legends elsewhere will have to start again when they reach the Nintendo console tomorrow – unless they want a long wait.

When asked about cross progression, Chad Grenier of Respawn told us:

It is planned, but I think we are far from being able to offer that. I really want it as a player, so I listen to what our fans are saying and I totally agree with them. We are working to try to make this happen, it is a complex challenge of several existing accounts for several users that we have to solve or merge, there are legal and contractual things to browse with purchases on other platforms and have these transfers and also some technical challenges. So it’s not something that we can just activate, but we are working to make it happen and the team is passionate about delivering it at some point.
