AOC calls Nebraska Governor ‘racist’ for saying undocumented meat factory workers won’t get vaccine

Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., dubbed Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts “racist” after saying that undocumented workers in slaughterhouses would not be included in his state’s vaccine distribution plan.

“Imagine being so racist as to go out of your way to ensure that the people who prepare * your * food are not vaccinated,” wrote the “Squad” leader on Twitter in response to a clip from Ricketts’s press conference.

“Illegal immigrants are not allowed to work at these facilities, so I don’t think that will be a problem,” said Ricketts on Monday.

“Again, you must be a legal resident of the country to be able to work in these factories, so I don’t expect illegal immigrants to be part of the vaccine with this program,” said the two-state Republican chief executive added.

Refrigerators must receive the vaccine in Phase 1B, along with concessionaire workers, educators and others.

The state is still in Phase 1A, as more than 36,000 doses have been administered to frontline workers. Phase 1B is expected to begin in late January.

According to the Migration Policy Institute, at least 14% of refrigerator workers in Nebraska have no documents.

Nebraska faced 5,200 cases and 22 deaths in 23 separate outbreaks linked to refrigerators.
