On Tuesday, the 82-year-old Oscar-winning actor, who delighted fans with quirky videos on Instagram, shared an inspiring post talking honestly about his journey to recovery.
Noting that 2020 was a difficult year, “full of pain and sadness”, the star of “The Two Popes” revealed that, 45 years ago, he received a “wake-up call”.
“I was going to be a disaster,” he explained. “I was drinking to death. I’m not a preacher, but I got a message, albeit a little that said, ‘Do you want to live or die?’ And I said, ‘I want to live’ and suddenly the relief came. “
