Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins is receiving praise on social media for his inspiring message that celebrates 45 years of sobriety. In a video posted on Twitter on Tuesday, Hopkins shares his fight against alcoholism and how he has dramatically changed his life after realizing he was “doomed to disaster”.
Hopkins begins by recognizing the “difficult year” that we live in, “full of pain and sadness for many, many people”.
“Forty-five years ago today, I received an alert,” said Hopkins. “I was going to disaster, I was drinking to death. I’m not a preacher, but I got a message, a little thought that said, ‘Do you want to live or die?’ And I said, ‘I want to live.’ And suddenly the relief came and my life has been incredible, ”he said.
Hopkins reveals that his journey was not without difficulty: “I have my days off and sometimes little doubts and everything”, but he encouraged his fans to maintain a positive outlook. “Altogether, I say hold on. Today is the tomorrow that you were so worried about yesterday. Young people, don’t give up. Just stay there. Keep fighting. Be bold. Powerful forces will come to your aid. This has sustained me all my life. “
He concluded his message by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. “This is going to be the best year,” he said.
Hopkins won the lead actor Oscar for his performance in Silence of the Innocents and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 for his role as Pope Benedict in a Netflix movie The two popes. He recently starred in Westworld and the praised feature of Florian Zeller The father.
