Another Alabama assistant joining Steve Sarkisian in Texas

Another Alabama assistant is expected to join Steve Sarkisian in Texas.

Sarkisian is expected to hire Crimson Tide’s tight end coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, sources confirmed with AL.com.

The news was first reported by Inside Texas and The Athletic.

It is a notable loss for Tide. In addition to his work as a field coach, Banks is ranked No. 3 nationally in the 247Sports recruiter ranking for this recruiting cycle and was the top recruiter in three of the Texas signatories from the state of Texas. This includes five-star running back Camar Wheaton and four-star quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Banks becomes Tide’s second field assistant to leave for Texas, after offensive lineman Kyle Flood left to be the Longhorns’ offensive coordinator.

It will be a return to Texas for the Banks. Before being hired in Alabama in 2018, Banks spent five seasons at Texas A&M.
