Announcement about the next phase of the coronavirus vaccine launch could come this week

HOUSTON – An announcement about the next phase of people who will be eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine could be made this week.

According to Douglas Loveday, a press officer with the Texas State Department of Health Services, the announcement of who will be included in group 1C could occur later this week.

This would be in addition to those already eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as part of phases 1A and 1B. These phases include frontline healthcare professionals, residents of nursing homes, anyone aged 65 and over, anyone aged 16 and over with comorbidity and some early childhood education and care workers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that people working in transportation and logistics, food service, housing construction and finance, information technology, communications, energy, law, media, public safety and public health be included in the Phase. 1C. The final decision is left to the health authorities of each state.

Texas health officials said they expected to receive more than 1 million of the first doses of the vaccine this week.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on Monday that more than half of the state’s elderly people had been shot.

President Joe Biden said there should be enough doses to vaccinate all American adults by the end of May.
