Anniversary: Nintendo Switch released four years ago

Four years ago today, on March 3, 2017, the Nintendo Switch was first released in most regions of the world.

With its monstrous sales records and incredible game library, it’s not especially easy to remember how different things were for Nintendo before the Switch arrived. We all know the story of the Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U – and how, despite a strong line of big names, it ended up disappointing in terms of sales and third-party efforts – but Nintendo’s new console seems to have completely changed things for the best.

Switch arrived in style in March 2017, being released along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – one of the best launch titles the world has ever seen and, in fact, one of the greatest games of all time, from according to critics. The system already had its killer app on the first day, but its sales, success and overall positivity have continued to flow ever since.

When the console reaches the “middle of its life cycle”, Nintendo is confident that it will overtake the Wii. With a list of games coming soon, including The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Monster Hunter Rise, Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.
