Anne Hathaway said that her first name simply “doesn’t fit” and that no one in her life really uses it.
On Tuesday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, the dawn host mentioned that he didn’t know what to call her.
“I’ve known you for a long time,” he said. – I’ve heard people call her Annie, like her good friends. Should I call you Anne or Annie?
The “Princess Diaries” star replied, “Call me Annie! Everyone, everyone, call me Annie – please!”
She said she started getting interested in Anne at 14, but she didn’t know people would call her that ‘for the rest of my life’
She said that she became interested in Anne professionally when she starred in a commercial at the age of 14 and needed to obtain a membership card from the Screen Actors Guild.
But she didn’t know at the time that her career was going to take off and that people always referred to her by her birth name, rather than her favorite nickname, Annie, she said.
“They asked me, ‘What do you want your name to be?’ And I, well, it should be my name. My name is Anne Hathaway, “she said.” And then it seemed like the right choice. But it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people would call me Anne. “

Hathaway said that being called Anne reminded her of her mother, Kate McCauley Hathaway, being angry with her.
“The only person who calls me Anne is my mother, and she only does it when she is really mad at me,” she said, adding, “So every time I go out in public and someone calls my name, I think they ‘will yell at me. “
Fallon said that being referred to by his full name, James Thomas, gave him the same feeling, and they laughed about how strange it would be if people shouted his birth name on the street.
She also encouraged Fallon and the public to call her “anything but Anne”.
“People are so kind – they don’t want to be presumptuous, so they invent alternative solutions on the set, because the truth is that no one feels comfortable calling me Anne ever. “I am an Annie. And then people call me, like, Miss. H; people call me Hath.

“It’s been a lot, but this is a good age to be at home with your kids,” she told Fallon. “Our 4-year-old son believes everything we say to him, and that is lovely and also very useful.”
She said that I was a “magical” age and that it was a gift to be able to be home with my children during the pandemic.
