If you initialize your copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there must be an update waiting for you that brings the game up to version 1.9.0. Otherwise, you can activate the update manually by accessing the game settings in the Switch Home menu.
After upgrading to the latest version of the game, you will receive a birthday cake in the mail. In addition, players can also expect Bunny Day to return on April 4, new seasonal items, enhanced custom design and more.

Ver. 1.9.0 (released March 17, 2021)
The software has been updated if you see “Ver. 1.9.0 ”in the upper right corner of the title screen.
General updates
- The seasonal Bunny Day event has been updated.
- Additional support for Sanrio® Collaboration amiibo cards has been added.
- New miles redemption options have been added to the Nook Stop.
- Custom Design Pro Editor +
- Adds additional custom-designed slots and new pattern options.

- Adds access to the Custom Designs Portal from the Custom Designs application.

Fixed issues
- Fixed an issue in version 1.4.0 where if a player used a wand to transform and then exchanged his wand for another item while his pockets were full, the player would no longer be able to remove the transformation suit.
- Fixed an issue with version 1.7.0 involving kits where a player can dig where he normally shouldn’t change his mind after using the “Let me imagine …” option.
- Other adjustments and corrections have been made to improve the gaming experience.
