An Animal Crossing: New Horizons balloon popping trick can save you a lot of frustration if you left the slingshot at home.

The Reddit user ItzStarr86 demonstrated the trick in a quick Reddit video: it starts in the typical way, with a balloon floating overhead and an animated island representative quickly realizing that they don’t have the slingshot on it. Instead of sinking into despair and cursing the skies, which is my usual strategy, they go on to enable their Cliff Building License, create a block of land adjacent to the balloon path and then climb to the top with their ladder. Then, with a timely movement of its insect network, the balloon is burst and the gift is saved.
Okay, this strategy is no less dependent on having the right things in your inventory, since you need a ladder to get there and a hammock to make the balloon burst (not to mention that Terraforming and cliffscaping are unlocked). But that means you shouldn’t lose hope the next time you hear that trademark “whoosh” and start cursing yourself for leaving your slingshot in storage again. We are hitting our foreheads because we have not yet thought about it.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is fast approaching its first anniversary, but players are still discovering new secrets all the time. That includes a special message if you are a baby on a leap day, and that you can turn a football fish on and off (doesn’t seem to mind).
