Animal Crossing Build-A-Bear goes on sale this morning, it could be a Clusterfluff [Update]

Anxiously awaited official line from Build-A-Bear Animal Crossing: New Horizons cuddly toys will start selling this morning at 11 am Eastern time. To deal with what is sure to be a massive demand, Build-A-Bear has created a virtual queue for customers to get together to wait for the chance to buy items that have not yet been revealed. Nothing could go wrong with this plan. To update: It’s just Tom Nook and Isabelle. Boo.

See how the Build-A-Bear virtual waiting room works. Customers can start lining up at 10:30 am at Site Build-A-Bear. In the queue, they will be randomly assigned to a place in the queue. As soon as the customer’s turn comes, he will have a limited time to buy items from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons collection. Once purchased, customers can go to eBay and put up for sale what they just bought for at least twice the price.

There are some problems with this system. On the one hand, as we’ve seen with sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S since the new consoles launched in November, bots and scalpers love automated queuing systems, regularly dominating sales of hard-to-find items.

Second, Build-A-Bear is not revealing characters and items until 10:30 am Eastern time. If you really like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and wanting something to caress, your best option, besides being very friendly with my wife, is to wait until summer, when the Build-A-Bear collection hits stores. You will have a better chance of getting what you want, as well as seeing someone in a Build-A-Bear polo shirt littering them. It’s the miracle of life, and then you can go to the food court to buy some pretzel dogs. Everyone wins.

10:30 am update: It’s just Isabelle and Tom Nook. Why keep it a secret if it’s just the two most obvious? Who knows.
